Post Baby Hair Loss

I guess it’s a common thing for moms to lose some of their hair post baby. I’ve had friends have hair come out in massive chunks. I’m not sure what I’m doing differently but my hair hasn’t fallen out any more than it’s usual shedding. May hair actually looks better now than when I was pregnant. With my first baby I never had any hair loss problems either.

I continue to take my prenatal vitamins as well as my fish oil. Even though I’m not pregnant, the prenatal vitamins have that extra bit Camden and I need while I’m still nursing him. Outside of those two vitamins I workout, drink lots of fluids, and eat lots of protein. I know protein aids in the hair growth process so maybe that mixed with my continued consumption of iron, zinc, etc in my prenatal vitamin is what helped keep my hair strong and full.

If that’s not it, then I guess I have my luck to thank!

D-Day hair washing

We are getting close to D-day! That means my hair washing schedule has changed. I’m typically a once a week hair washer. I live for dry shampoo. That’s why my hair is always so soft and shiny. However now that baby time is close, I’m washing my hair every other day. I fear going a week without washing my hair, then the day I go to wash it I end up going into labor and don’t get the chance. Lord knows I’ll be too tired to wash it the days after having Camden. So I’m not taking any chances of being the smelly haired lady. My hair will have to suffer through the frequent washes for the next few days till he’s here! 🧼

Removing hair ties from hair

I went to my hair stylist and she asked if I pull my hair ties out of my hair with my left hand. Yesssss I do. I was really confused how she knew. She said she could tell by the breakage on the right side of my head. I knew when I pulled my hair ties out of my hair it may do a little damage with pulling but I didn’t think it was anything really obvious. She showed me the difference in the left and right side and what pulling out hair ties does to your hair.

My hair is thinner and broken off more on the right side. That’s because when I pull out a hair tie, I always pull with my left hand pulling from my head out to the left. So it tears at my hair on the right side the most.

She told me to avoid doing too much damage, to unloop the hair tie rather than pulling it. Sounds like something obvious and simple. However when you’ve pulled the hair tie out of your hair for years, you non consciously do it out of habit. I now have to stop my self when taking my hair down and remember to unloop it to let my hair fall rather than pulling.

Spare your hair the breakage! Don’t pull hair ties out of your hair!

Pregnancy Hair

Pregnancy hair…..people talk about how beautiful their hair looks while they’re pregnant. That it becomes more full and soft. However, there are a few people that don’t have this wonderful result. I’m one of those people this time around. My hair definitely got thicker, but it also became more dry and brittle. 👎🏻

With my first baby it was full and soft. It stayed that way after I had him. I got lucky and didn’t lose chunks of hair like some women. 👩🏼

With this second baby, my hair has gotten thicker but the softness left. My hair started to feel more dry, sort of straw like. It also became more brittle and would break and split at the ends. It confused me because I eat just as healthy with my second as I did my first baby. I’m also working out just as much and making sure I drink tons of water. My doctor says it’s just due to hormones that are completely out of my control. Luckily my hair stylist recommended a hair mask that has helped tremendously! It’s made my hair feel soft and healthy again. 💈

Nounou is the name of the hair mask I use. It’s by Davines. You can get it in salons or on Amazon for $38. I actually just found it online at Walmart for $17! 💰

If your hair is dry and brittle, I definitely recommend giving this mask a try! 💙
